Please support our animal welfare work

Shop with us and raise funds to help local animals. Our target is to achieve a weekly turnover of £900 at each of our shops, which will safeguard the future of the services which we provide in the Cambridge and Newmarket area.

Prices for textiles for recycling are very good at present, so even worn or damaged clothes, linens etc. that are not good enough to be sold on the shopfloor can raise valuable funds. Unfortunately this only applies to textiles (including curtains, but not duvets or pillows), so please don't give us damaged bric-a-brac etc. as the council charges us for disposal.

We need volunteers

Are you strong and energetic? We urgently need helpers for Saturday afternoons as this is the time when we receive most of our donated items. Our work-room is upstairs above the sales area and running up and down carrying bags for sorting is a lot of effort. We are looking for people who would be willing to come in for one or two hours to help carry bags up to the work-room and empty them into containers ready for sorting.

We aim to run the shop as professionally as possible, with items sorted and correctly priced and damaged items discarded for sale for recycling. Whether you fancy working on the till, or are more of a "back-room" person, there are tasks to suit you.

The shop is able to provide work experience placements for year 10 and 11 students. Phone Lorna on 07766 502 032 if you would like to discuss this.

You can download a volunteering form from this website. Lorna is the shop's line-manager and contact with the branch committee and the best way to find out more about volunteering is to phone her mobile number 07766 502 032.

We need donations!

In order to keep people interested in browsing and buying from the shop we need a constant flow of new stock, so that the shelves in the sales area keep changing. Please keep us in mind if you ever need to dispose of clothes, books, CDs, DVDs, videos etc. We can usually arrange collection within about a 10 mile radius of Cambridge or Newmarket if you have a large quantity: please phone 01638 668 023 and ask to leave a message for Sharon. We usually need at least 7 days notice to arrange a collection as the people doing it are volunteers and may not be available at very short notice.

You can become a member of the RSPCA by joining via the internet. Membership will give you voting rights on important issues and the chance of joining your local branch committee as well as simply supporting the society, so it is very worthwhile if you want to help animals.
